Save My Thyroid: Healing Tips for Hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's

Can Botox Trigger Thyroid Autoimmunity?

Dr. Eric Osansky

Botox injections use a toxin called botulinum toxin to stop the release of acetylcholine and prevent muscles from contracting. Botox injections are commonly used to smooth wrinkles on the face but can also help treat neck spasms, overactive bladder, lazy eye, and other health conditions.

During my interview with Inna Topiler about the causes of thyroid autoimmunity, she mentioned Botox injections as an uncommon cause. Following that, I dove into the research and found some interesting studies, primarily related to thyroid eye disease.

In this episode, you’ll learn what research shows about:
- The potential pathogenic link between Botox and autoimmune thyroid diseases
- How Botox may be able to help with thyroid eye disease
- Thyroid eye disease presenting after cosmetic Botox injections
- The use of Botox in the treatment of upper eyelid retraction due to thyroid eye disease

As always, I hope you find this episode valuable, and I look forward to catching you in the next episode!
