Save My Thyroid: Healing Tips for Hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's

Can corn trigger thyroid autoimmunity?

Dr. Eric Osansky DC, IFMCP

A number of common allergens can cause problems in those with thyroid and autoimmune thyroid conditions.

We hear a lot about the potentially negative effects of gluten and dairy, but another allergen you need to be aware of is corn. Corn proteins have been shown to cause a celiac-like immune response, meaning that they can produce a similar response to gluten.

Today, I’m discussing the relationship between corn consumption and thyroid autoimmunity, how it can trigger immune responses similar to gluten, why I recommend being vigilant about hidden corn ingredients, and why my advice is to eliminate corn from your diet while healing your thyroid.

In this episode, you’ll learn:
- What research shows about how corn can affect people with and without celiac disease
- Challenges with avoiding corn
- Hidden and unexpected common sources of corn
- Potential corn exposure in anti-thyroid medication and Synthroid
- The prevalence of genetically modified corn in the United States
- Choosing non-GMO and organic products
- Why I recommend avoiding corn on your thyroid healing journey

As always, I hope you find this episode valuable, and I look forward to catching you in the next episode!
