Save My Thyroid: Healing Tips for Hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's
If you have hyperthyroidism (Graves' disease, toxic multinodular goiter, etc.) or Hashimoto's thyroiditis and are looking to do everything to save your thyroid gland, then the Save My Thyroid podcast is for you! Dr. Eric Osansky DC, IFMCP is the host, as he personally was diagnosed with Graves' disease in 2008 and was able to get into remission taking a natural approach. He created this podcast to help others with hyperthyroidism and Hashimoto's save their thyroid and regain their health. If you have hyperthyroidism then pretty much all of the episodes will benefit you, and if you have Hashimoto's you'll benefit from most of the guest expert episodes, as well as some of the "solo" episodes. The reason there is more of a focus on hyperthyroidism is because all of the other thyroid-related podcasts focus mostly on hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's, and since Dr. Eric personally dealt with Graves' disease he wanted this podcast to focus more on hyperthyroidism, although it will still offer plenty of value to those with hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's. Dr. Eric Osansky lives in Matthews NC with his wife, 2 daughters, 3 cats, 2 dogs, and 3 guinea pigs! He has been a practitioner for 20+ years, and has focused on helping people with thyroid and autoimmune thyroid conditions since 2009.

Mushrooms and Thyroid Health

In this episode, Dr. Eric Osansky explores mushrooms and thyroid health, with a particular focus on Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s. One common concern is whether mushrooms “boost” the immune system and therefore should be avoided by people with autoimmune conditions. Dr. Eric explains why it may be more accurate to think of mushrooms as immune modulators and discusses how their polysaccharides, beta-glucans, and other compounds may influence regulatory T cells and Th17 cells involved in autoimmunity.
Dr. Eric also looks at the potential benefits of mushrooms for the gut microbiome and compares culinary mushrooms with concentrated medicinal mushroom supplements. He takes a closer look at reishi, cordyceps, lion’s mane, maitake, chaga, shiitake, and turkey tail, including research suggesting cordyceps may have potential benefits for thyroid antibodies. He also discusses what to consider when choosing a mushroom supplement, including extracts versus powders, third-party testing, fruiting bodies versus mycelium, beta-glucans, and precautions for certain individuals.
Ultimately, mushrooms shouldn’t be viewed as a treatment for Graves’ disease or Hashimoto’s or as a replacement for identifying triggers, healing the gut, and addressing other underlying factors. However, both culinary and medicinal mushrooms may have a place in a whole-body approach to supporting gut and immune health. Tune in to better understand mushrooms, thyroid autoimmunity, and what that connection really means.
